Types Of Food Licenses:
- Basic FSSAI Registration - if annual turnover is below 12 lakhs
- State FSSAI License - if annual turnover is above 12 lakhs and below 20 crores
- Central FSSAI License - if annual turnover is above 20 crores.
Every Food Business Operator (FBO), such as entities or persons involved in
manufacturing, preparation, selling, transportation, distribution and storage of food articles/products,
mandatorily required to have an FSSAI registration to carry on their food business
FBOs should obtain the necessary registration or license depending on the size of their businesses.
FSSAI registration is a 14-digit registration or a license number

Eligibility
1.Basic Registration -Form A
Required for all the FBOs involved in the small-scale food business.
This category covers the following businesses:
- Any FBO with an annual turnover of not more than Rs. 12 lakh.
- Petty retailer dealing in food products.
- Any person who manufactures or sells any food article by himself.
- Food sale is done by the temporary stall holder.
- Any individual who distributes food in any religious or social gathering except a caterer.
- Small-scale or cottage industries dealing in the food business.
- Small businesses having the following food capacity limits:

2. State Licence - Form B
Medium-sized manufacturing units, transporters, marketers, traders, etc., -From State Govt
This category covers the following businesses:
FBO's must have a turnover between Rs 12 lakh to Rs 20 crore (Rs 30 crore in case of transportation business and wholesaler)
All grains, cereals, pulses milling units without any limit on production capacity
Medium-scale businesses having the following food capacity limits:

3.Central Licence-Form B
Large manufacturers, importers and exporters dealing in large-scale food businesses - From Central Govt
This category covers the following businesses:
- FBO's must have a turnover above Rs 20 crore (Rs 30 crore in case of transportation business and wholesaler)
- Following FBOs irrespective of turnover or size of business:
- Food businesses operating in two or more states.
- Importers and exporters.
- Proprietary food and Non-specified food.
- Food or health supplements and Nutraceuticals.
- Radiation processing of foods.
- Food Business Activities at premises of Central Govt Agencies
- Caterers, restaurants, canteens, hawkers or petty retailers at the premises of railway stations
- E-commerce food business

Fssai License/registration & Renewal Fees:
- Basic Registration :- 100 per year

- Email id and Mobile Number of the Proprietor / partner / authorized Signatory
- Trade name / Legal Name of the business on which they are desirous to take Fssai License / Fssai Registration / Food License
Documents required for Renewal: Same as registration documents
Procedure for FSSAI Registration:
- Step 1: Food business operators need to register them with the Registration Authority by submitting registering fee of Rs. 100/- for one year
- Step 2: Food service operators after registering are required to fill in the application form 'Form A' with fee of Rs. 100/-
- Step 3: After form submission, applicant shall receive a 14 digit Unique Application Reference Number
- Step 4: Within 7 days of form submission, Registering Authority (RA) shall issue the registration certificate or reject the application, depending on their verification and observation
- Step 5: Food business operator may start the business once he/she receives approval certificate from the Registering Authority
- Step 6: If required, RA may issue notice for inspection and the order shall be given within 7 days
- Step 7: Inspection will be done in 30 days and post that Food Business Operator can start the business

- List of machinery and equipment to be used along with name, make and model, capacity and numbers installed of each
- The plan in place to recall food products manufactured from the market
- No Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the local health department, panchayat or municipality, If any available.
- Form IX along with the Board Resolution in a case of Company only.
- Ministry of Tourism certificate (in certain cases).
- Documents supporting period wise turnover figures and transportation of products and also the no. of vehicles / trucks, have by the transporters.
- Self-declaration form by the authorized signatory / partner / proprietor.

Procedure to Obtain FSSAI Central License:
- Step-1: Application Filing Via Form B
First, the license seeker is required to file Form B with the licensing Authority. While doing so, the applicant has to keep basic turnover criteria in mind.
- Step-2: Applicant Scrutiny by FSSAI Officials
Once submitted, the Application accompanied by requested documents will be sent to the concerned officials for in-depth scrutiny.
- Step-3: On-Site Inspection by FSSAI's Official of The Business Place
In this step, the FSSAI will send the designated officials to the business place to determine the level of compliance recommended by FSSAI.
Any non-conformity in this regard could increase the chances of application cancellation.
- Step-4: Approval of Application and Grant of The Application
Once the licensing Authority approves the Application, the certificate will find its way to the license seeker in a few days. After getting the certification, the business owner can commence their business operation at full throttle.
Note: Displaying the Certificate at The Business Place Is Another Legal Mandate for The License Holder.
FSSAI Registration Status:
- An applicant is informed by SMS/email alert at many stages of application processing by FSSAI.
- The applicant can also check the FSSAI registration status by entering the application reference number issued after submitting the application to FSSAI on the 'Track Application Status' tab on the FoSCoS website. Click here for detailed steps on tracking FSSAI application status.
- When the FSSAI registration status is displayed as 'Application Reverted', the FSSAI authorities have reverted back the application for necessary modification or clarification.
- The applicant needs to submit the response within 30 days from the reverted date to avoid the risk of application rejection.
- The FSSAI registration status will be displayed as 'Registration Certificate Issued' when the FSSAI authorities issue the FSSAI registration certificate.
- The applicants can download the certificate by logging into the FoSCoS website.
Renewal of FSSAI License:
- The FSSAI license is essential to commence the food business, similarly, it is imperative to renew the license. The license is issued for a validity of 1 year or 5 years, so the business must apply for renewal 30 days prior to the expiry of the current license.
Conditions:
All Food Business operators shall ensure that the following conditions are complied with at all times during the course of its Food Business.
Food Business Operators Shall:
- Display a true copy of the license granted in Form C shall at all time at a prominent place in the premises.
- Give necessary access to licensing authorities or their authorized personnel to the premises.
- Inform authorities about any change or modifications in activities.
- Employ at least one technical person to supervise the production process. The person supervising the production process shall possess at least a degree in science with Chemistry/ Bio-chemistry/ Food and nutrition/ Microbiology or a degree or diploma in Food Technology/ Dairy Technology/ Dairy Microbiology/ Dairy chemistry/ Dairy engineering/ Oil technology/ / Veterinary science / Hotel management & Catering technology or any degree or diploma in any other discipline related to the specific requirement of the business from a recognized university or institute or equivalent.
- Furnish periodic annual return 1st April to 31st March, with in 31st May of each year. For collection/ handling/manufacturing of milk and milk products half yearly return also to be furnished as specified. Delay in Filing return beyond 31st May of each year shall attract a penalty of 100 per day.
- Ensure that no product other than the product indicated in the license/ registration is produced in the unit.
- Maintain factory's sanitary and hygienic standards and workers hygiene as specified in the schedule-4 according to the category of food business.
- Maintain daily records of production, raw materials utilization and sales separately.
- Ensure that the source and standards of raw material used are of optimum quality.
- Food business operator shall not manufacture , store or expose for sale or permit the sale of any article of food in any premises not effectively separated to the satisfaction of the licensing authority from any privy, urine, sullage, drain or place of storage of foul and waste matter.
- Ensure clean-in-place system (whatever necessary) for regular cleaning of machine & equipment.
- Ensure testing of relevant chemical and/or microbiological contaminants in food products in accordance with these regulation as frequency as required on the basis of historical data and risk assessment to ensure production and delivery of safe food through own or NABL accredited /FSSAI recognized labs at least once in six months.
- Ensure that as much as possible the required temperature shall be maintained throughout the supply chain from the place of procurement or sourcing till it reaches the end consumer including chilling, transportation, storage etc.
- The Manufacturer/ Importer/ Distributer shall buy and sell food products only from, or to, licensed /registered vendors and maintain record thereof.

Eating House is a place which is open to the public where food can be consumed or ready consumption. Another definition of eating house is any public place where refreshments here include any form of juices (Exclude Alcohol related).
